Amantani Island Cultural Homestay

Amantani Island Cultural Homestay

US$ 335.00 for 1 person

US$ 185 per person (2 up to 4)

Get an authentic taste of life on Amantani Island on Lake Titicaca, taking part of their daily activities (fishing, visiting the Community and School, preparation of Pachamanca) and staying overnight as a guest of a friendly and hospitable local family in their modest homes, sharing their food. Meet other members of the community, join in evening music and entertainment and enjoy a trip to Uros reed  floating Islands on the way back to Puno.

Amantani Homestay benefits both you as a guest and the islanders. You get a genuine insight into life on the island, eating with the family, meeting other villagers at a local gathering, often with music and dance, and spending the night in one of the family’s bedrooms. Ten Amantani communities take turns in hosting travellers, each village distinguished by differences in the colour and style of their dress.

As the homestay service is managed and run by the Amantani islanders, any income generated by your stay benefits the entire community, allowing them to preserve their traditional way of life based on farming, fishing and weaving. If you can cope with the altitude, hike up the peaks of Pachamama (Mother Earth) or Pachatata (Father Earth) for panoramic views of Lake Titicaca.

As well as spending time on Amantani, you see the man-made Uros islands built with tortora reeds and home to the Uros Indians.

Itinerary of what you’ll do

Day 1: Puno port – Amantani

7:00 am Pick-up from your hotel and quick transfer to Puno port then depart towards Amantani Island by a motor and covered section boat.

While other companies (mostly group tour operators) will be visiting the touristy place of Uros floating Islands, we are going to navigate directly to Amantani traversing the intense blue of Lake Titicaca.

Beautiful landscape will be appreciated on the way and enjoy the breeze of the Lake.

10:00 am Arrival to Amantani Island and walk up to the local school. This early morning we’ll meet up with children of the Island (from Monday to Friday, from March to December).

After this unique and memorable encounter we’ll go to our local family host.

11:30 am Be part of the preparation of the Pachamanca (food of the Mother Earth).

Our family host before our arrival will get ready everything, crops and meet will be put inside this hot stone oven.

12:45 pm enjoy the typical Pachamanca prepared by yourself and the local family.

2:00 pm learn from your host how to make textiles and what are their meaning.

3:00 pm Trekking to Pachamama or Pachatata through ancient stone paved stairs.

Magnificent sunset views over the Mountains and lake.

6:30 pm dinner with the local family.

7:30 pm Serenate, typical music of the High Andes.

If you’re looking for a grout tour to Amantani Island then Lake Titicaca 2 Day Tour is for you. On the way to Amantani visit Uros, stay at family houses and next day hiking and lunch on the men knitting island (Taquile).

Day 2: Amantani - Uros

8:00 am After an early breakfast at the local house, you’ll be walking down to the main port and take the boat to navigate to Uros floating Islands.

10.00 am Estimated to arrive to the set of reed floating Islands. We are going to visit the one located in the North side.

A local Uros family welcome us to their reed home and invite us to take a reed boat ride over the calm Lake water surrounded by reeds, the main natural source, and learn from the local Uros man how they cut the reeds, how fishing was in the ancient time and enjoy a pleasant riding on the typical raft.

12:00 pm After one hour and 20 minutes we’ll step on the reed Islands again and have a tasty lunch prepared by the local family. Enjoy your meal overlooking the Lake. After this time you relax and rest for a while.

2:00 pm Finally, at the end of 2-day Amantani Island Cultural Homestay on Lake Titicaca you would go back to Puno by kayak (provided without an additional cost) or by the engine same motor boat.
