What you'll do on Isla del Sol Day Trip (Overview)

Your Day Tour to Isla del Sol from Copacabana begins with the boat ride to Moon Island ( Isla de la Luna). You'll gain unique and great insights of your guide about the main Islands on the Bolivian Lake Titicaca and pre-Incan civilizations ruling.

Then after head to Isla del Sol, upon arrival have lunch and visit on a guided walking tour of the Island. You'll hike for one hour (optional) through ancient trail towards Pilcocaina Temple and marvel the stunning landscape.

Finally, upon arrival, you'll visit inside the First Incan Temple ever built before to worship their Inti Sun God and learn from your guide about the origin of the Inca Empire.

Copacabana to Isla del la Luna

8:30 am  our team-mate tour guide (Pablo or Rosemery) will meet you at your hotel in Copacabana Town then after walk down to the lakeshore to onboard the motor boat.

8:45 am the motorized boat will set off from Copacabana to Moon Island, along the way you'll see and enjoy beautiful Lake Views while your guide takes his time to explain about the great pre-Incan civilizations ruling the Lake basin.

You'll traverse the blue horizon and hit the tip of peninsula of Copacabana and Yampupata, which is widly used by local Islanders as the fastest route from Copacabana to Isla del Sol.

Isla de la Luna (Moon Island)

10:15 am upon arrival at Isla de la Luna (Moon Island) you'll hike up the short steep path leading you to the Sun's Temple of the Virgins. You'll see ancient (First Inca buildings) dedicated to train young girls to serve the Inca Emperor. Folloowing that, you'll enjoy of majestic views of the Bolivian snow peaks. 

11:30 am your local expert boatman takes you to the next Island. The Island of the Sun, considered as the birthplace of the Inca Empire, arises on the blue horizon.

Isla del Sol (Sun Island)

12:30 pm you'll arrive at Tacana Restaurant, located on the lower part of the Island and locally owned, offers great views. Here, Vicky will wait for your arrival with a tasty lunch prepared with local products and ingredients. You'll enjoy of the traditional Aphtapi lunch.

You would extend your experience by staying the night on Isla del Sol at local lodge and gain deep understanding of the way of the life of the Aymara speaking community.

1:45 pm your guide will lead you through the top rated attractions and places. You will start with the Isla del Sol Hike. You'll hike from Yumani community towards the very Southern side of the Island.

You'll firstly hike up the almost 100 stairs and learn from your guide about the legendary myth of the Inca fountain of the eternal youth, spring water.

Following that, you'll walk through the trail, on the way enjoy the view of the peninsula and part of the Peruvian side. You'll be informed about the local agricultural activities and pre-Incan terraces, traditions, festivities by your personal guide.

Then after, arrive at the Pilcocaina Temple, the first Inca palace dedicated to their Sun God. You'll get deep explanation and clue facts about its importance during the Inca ruling.

Floating Islands Copacabana

3:30 pm embark again on your private boat and head back to Copacabana. On the way back to your accommodation, an optional short stop by the Floating Islands Copacabana is offered. Basically, you'll see how the Islands were constructedand for what purposes, a little resemblance of Uros Floating Islands in Puno, Peru.

5:30 pm arrival time at Copacabana port and that's how your Isla del Sol Day Trip ends.
