Day 1: it begins with a private transfer from Juliaca airport to Uros pier, from where a local boat takes you to the most stunning and amazing reed islands. Do local activities, in the late afternoon. Dinner and overnight.

Day 2: we'll onboard the Amantani homestay tour boat and navigate for almost 3 hours to Amantani island. On arrival lunch, trekking to Pachamama or Pachatata temples (in the late afternoon). Dinner and overnight.

Now let's dive deep what is this about.

Day 1: Juliaca airport to Puno to Uros

After almost 1 hour driving, we get to Kalapajra a local pier of the Uros islands (15 min out of Puno downtown and 10 min from Uros islands).

Here, just after arrival your family host is going to take you to their reed floating homes by a small covered engine boat. A 10-minutes of navigation to its reed islands is spent while you observe and enjoy the particular landscape surrounding us. Many boats coming and going.

At the entrance of Uros floating village; entrance fees must be paid (but included in the price).

After minutes from this point, you finally step on one of the unique floating reed islands, Uros Summa Paqari Lodge. You meet Vidal's family. You are shown your reed rooms and you would rest and feel comfy after your flight from Lima. You are offered Coca tea, muña (Andean mint) tea for the altitude.

In the late afternoon we are going to visit the Uros village by engine boat (while exploring the islands Vidal is going to explain you about their history, the building process, how many inhabitants, etc) or do some local activities such as cutting reeds, fishing and rowing a typical Balsa craft. Highly recommended if you want a slow and relaxing afternoon.

Later you will enjoy the sunset from over your lodge, rooms have panoramic windows, how the sun sets over the small Puno hills while dinner is prepared. 

Overnight.

Day 2: Uros to Amantani Island (overnight)

After an early breakfast you may want to paddle our kayaks and go around, if yes there is an extra payment of $5 per person which is optional before the group boat arrives to Uros from Puno city (2 double kayaks available for your total relaxing adventure.

At about 9:45 am we'll take the big motor boat coming from Puno city (Lake Titicaca 2 day Tour). For this Vidal or his dad is taking you by a small engine boat to where the other big boat is located (5 min).

Uros to Amantani boat navigation

On the way you'll enjoy some beautiful landscape, native birds running on the water surface (if lucky), surrounded by two hills on the sides (Capachica and Chucuito peninsulas).

After almost 3 hours of navigation you finally get to Amantani. Circular and frog shape island, the second largest island in Lake Titicaca.

At the port "las mamas will be waiting for the group, colorfully dressed. You will be divided probably in two, two mamas for you 7. This arrangement will be done by your guide in agreement with the family otherwise you would be hosted with one family.

As you follow them, a 15 minutes hike, you'll appreciate its landscape and the Lake. On arrival you see where you'll sleep a basic room with beds, small table, small windows and a outside toilet.

Of course there is Luxury lodge as Amantica or other upgraded homestay lodges such as Titicaca Lodge (in the other side of the island), Henry and Mariluz homestay, Titicaca Amantani Chaska Wasi, etc. For us is possible to book them for you if you want hot shower, private bathrooms, etc but is under availability. 

Once you left your belongings in your rooms, it's time to have lunch: Quinoa soup, fried cheese accompanied with oca (kind of potato), salad or maybe a Peruvian dish (this will depend on the families) and Coca or Muña tea.

At about 3:45 om get ready to hike up the temple of Pachatata or Pachamama.

Your mamá is going to take until some section of the way then meet the group and the guide for a final recommendations and the path to take. 2 hour hike until the summit to finally enjoy the beauty of the Lake in 360° view. Further in the horizon, if not cloudy, the snow peak mountain in Bolivian side of the Lake. Sunset is about 5 pm, and you should be there to catch the colorful changing color over the Capachica peninsula.

Back at the house have dinner and rest for the next day. Time to talk to the family during the dinner.

Day 3: Amantani to Taquile navigation

At 6:30 is mostly served your breakfast (coffee or Coca) muña tea + pancakes). At 7:30 am or the time your guide says to be at the port for departing from Amantani to Taquile. One hour of navigation.

On arrival to Taquile you'll hike up to its main "plaza de armas" where the restaurant it's located and you'll have the opportunity to shop some fine textile in the local museum. Buying from the locals directly is worth it. Cheap and good quality.

During lunch your guide and a local man are going to teach you how a local herb is used as traditional shampoo. 

Set menu is Quinoa soup, grilled trout and Coca/muña tea (included).

So then after this 3 hours in Taquile we'll back to Puno, arriving at 3:30 pm. A quick transfer from the port to your selected hotel in downtown or to the bus terminal (if necessary).

Upon arrival to Puno port a motor boat awaits for you and takes us to Uros Chimu floating islands, located in the Southern section of popular Uros Islands.

It's a secluded and non-touristy side with beautiful views.

30 min of navigation to reach out these unique floating man-made islands, meanwhile your Titicaca tour guide provides the history of the pre-Columbian civilizations; learn the origin of the Uros people and meaning of Titicaca.

Upon arrival to the island a local family (Saturnino and his family) welcome us to their home and invite us to be part of the tradition of rowing Totora reed Balsa raft. 

A heritage dating back thousands of years ago, which today you can enjoy.

They'll perform how the reed should be cut in order to get the proper aquatic plants, they teaches us how to tie with the same reed, what part is eatable, which are used for building the islands, houses and boats.

After tasting Totora reed flavor and taking pictures, we back to the island where his family members show us the process of making the straw rope, reed walls, reed boat building, etc.

This authentic and unique Uros tour experience could take 2 hours and finally head to the set of Uros islands (the touristy side).

On the way to have lunch on one of the Northern reed floating lodges we'll stop at the commercial island to get stamps of the Lake for our passports (S/. 1 PEN per stamp and optional).

On Luz del Titicaca Lodge, Khantati Lodge, Qhantany Lodge or Summa Uro Lodge you'll get well deserved lunch (dish is mostly prepared of Titicaca trout). We'll stay here for about 1 hour and 30 min.

This is a navigation of 30 min to Uros reed islands while on the boat your English - Spanish speaking guide provides information of the Lake and what to do on arrival.

Then, you'll step on one the reed islands and learn what the islands are made of from your guide and from the local man that perform how to construct.

At 11:45 am you’ll be returning from the Uros islands to Puno port. Our driver picks you up then drive to downtown, here you can walk and know the city and take your time to have lunch.

Puno to Sillustani to Juliaca Airport

At 2 pm we'll pick you up from the restaurant and head to Juliaca airport, but on the route we're going to do a stop at Sillustani funeral towers (located 45 min from Puno and Juliaca).

You'll get included a private English speaking guide who is a source of information about the Aymara and Inca circular-like tower mausoleums; strategically built on top of the peninsula of Sillustani and overlooking Umayu lagoon.

After 1 hour and 20 min of guidance you'll be heading toward Juliaca airport. But a short stop at a typical farm house at Hatuncolla is offered. Here, we see from inside how the people live and still keep the legacy of their ancestors about textile, medical herbal uses, or simply take a funny picture with the lama o alpaca pet.

How to do Juliaca to Uros Islands Tour by yourself

After you landed in Juliaca at 7:25 am, at the entrance there is an authorized company Rosy Tours that provides Juliaca to Puno to Juliaca daily shuttle service. 

Just at the exit door you'll find them offering their transport. Nice and spacious vans with room for your belongings (recommended not bringing to many things). Once the van is full with the minimum required number of passengers it will leave airport for Puno (1h15min).

On arrival to Puno the van drops off everyone at their hotel, which could take too much time than expected. 

For your tour to Uros islands you can book in advance with any Titicaca tour companies and agree the meeting time or take a taxi and find a reliable tour agency at the very same Puno port (although lastly their prices are lower but instead once you are on the tour visiting Uros islands you're going to be in some way forced to buy souvenirs from them).

Uros Islands + Taquile Speed Boat Tour

The regular Taquile Island Fast Boat Tour starts at 7:10 am from Puno hotels but due you are flying the very same day from Lima, then what we'll do is:

From 7:25 am to 7: 45 am pick up from Juliaca airport and transfer to Kalapajra pier (local pier used by Uros people to go Uros by small engine boats, 10 to 15 min of navigation).

8:55 am arrival to Uros Kalapajra pier, and we immediately take a local engine boat to go directly where the big speed boat has stopped for visiting one of the Uros islands.

9:10 am at this time you are going to join the group. Most probably you’ll miss the explanation of the main group tour guide to everyone, but your guide will provide extra information on your arrival or when navigating to Taquile. Basically you’ll learn from them how the islands have been built since ancient time.

Then some people will take the reed boat to go to the second Uros island (price does not include this extra service offered by the locals, 15 PEN per person). 

You'll get your seats reserved in the Titicaca speed boat.

The only issue is that you could have some delay at the airport and the traffic in downtown Juliaca.

Juliaca to Puno drive is just 1h 15 minutes; depending on what time your plane lands in Juliaca we'll arrange everything for your arrival.

Once you get to the kayak launching point, if this is your first time kayaking then the guide provides the basics for paddling, stirring the kayak and help you get in the kayak.

From Kalapajra kayak launching place to Uros reed islands is only 45 minutes paddling, gladding over the tranquil water of Puno bay surrounded by the aquatic vegetation of Lake Titicaca.

On the way we'll enjoy the fantastic landscape, flora and fauna. 

On arrival to the set of reed floating islands we'll have some free time to rest and take photos with background of reed boats and reed houses.

It will be time to disembark and visit one of the Uros people and learn from them how they build their islands and the history of this ancient ethnic group in Lake Titicaca.

South Uros Day Kayak + Lunch

Your friendly driver picks you up from the airport then travel to Puno city, exactly to Chimu kayak embarking point (1h20min from Juliaca).

At Chimu kayak launching point your guide awaits for you with all the equipment required, previous paddling lessons before getting in the kayaks.

We'll paddle to Uros reed floating islands for about 1 hour on the way a beautiful landscape, amazing reed boats, flora and fauna are taking in sight while paddling to the North side.

On arrival to one of the Uros floating "hotel" your guide shows you how the islands are constructed. Later, you have lunch based on trout from the Lake and dessert.

Return from Uros to Puno is through another short way, you'll kayak this time on the water way between the mazes of reeds.

After the pick-up from Juliaca airport, the driver will take you to Capachica district (1hr 10 min), which is a small village located 14 km away from Llachon (where we'll go pedaling).

From Capachica to Llachon the road conditions are really good and it's just a perfect landscape for cycling old fashioned road bikes.

On your left hand you'll see the Capachica peninsula, pre Inca terraces, farm houses, eucalyptus trees. And on your right hand is the beautiful view to the highest navigable lake in the world: Titicaca.

The main paved roadway to Llachon offers unique opportunities for Lake Titicaca cycling Tours, a 14 km distance that should be covered.

In the same style of L'eroica, we are going to pedal our old fashioned model road bikes (vintage) and wearing helmet, gloves.

How will Llachon retro road cycling Tour work?

So here the idea is you're going to cycle at higher speed, for this just let the tour guide to be your "domestique" He is going to work for you forming a line at the front of you. You'll be our leader.

You guide, he'll be the guy in the lead, he'll be "pulling" of you. This cycling strategy revolves around the notion that it is easier to pedal when there's someone in front of you to cut the wind. Quick private transfer from Juliaca airport to Hatuncolla (45 min drive).

On arrival your guide awaits with the old fashioned road bike models and preparing everything for your arrival and departure.

After some adjusting we're cycling to Sillustani.

On the way we'll see a typical high plateau landscape, local farm houses, crop fields, llamas, etc.

We'll be pedaling through Colla land. After 1 hr 30 min pedaling we'll arrive to the other side of Sillustani where we'll meet local community people who is going to take us across Umayu lagoon to Sillustani burial tower cemetery by small wooden boat rowing for about 30 min while you enjoy the beautiful landscape and learn from your guide about the Aymara Colla kingdome.

10. Juliaca to Puno Transfers + Uros Floating Islands Group Tour

For this Lake Titicaca Day Tour option your plane has to arrive at 7:20 am to have enough time to drive from Juliaca to Puno city.

We’ll provide a private transport from Juliaca to Puno then you join Uros floating Islands Tour which starts at 9 am and ends at 12:15 pm.

After one hour drive from Juliaca to Puno, on arrival you will onboard a motor boat to Uros reed islands, 30 min of navigation away from Puno.

On the boat the guide explains about Lake Titicaca geography, history and some facts about Uros islanders.

You visit two different reed islands, on the first one you'll be explained in detail about Uros floating islands building process and maintenance.

Most people think that go kayaking to Uros reed islands from Puno city is the only real adventure and unique way to visit Lake Titicaca, but wrong. It’s not the only top destination where you can enjoy nature when visiting Lake Titicaca. Llachon is another beautiful place where to kayak. Sandy shoreline and clean crystal water.
