What You’ll Do
Puno to Kasani
You’ll be picked up from your location in Puno city, Peru and transferred to Kasani borderline on an almost 3 hour car ride with photo stops at Aramu Muru Doorway and Pomata Lake Titicaca Lookout along the way.
Kasani to La Paz
At the Peruvian immigration office, you’ll meet your Bolivian tour guide and get a “hand held border crossing”. Following that, you’ll head out to Sun Island by boat from Copacabana after a tasty lunch, explore the Isla del Sol.
By the afternoon, you’ll return to Copacabana and get transferred to La Paz and dropped off at your hotel or bus station.
Your Tour Itinerary
7:00 AM – Puno to Kasani

Pick-up at your hotel and leave Puno for Kasani border along the way you’ll see spectacular scenery as you go through a series of interesting villages on the Lake’s South shore and the Andean plains towards Isla del Sol, located on the Bolivian side of Lake Titicaca.
8:20 AM – Aramu Muru Doorway

Estimated arrival time at the Portal of Aramu Muru where your friendly driver will pay the entry tickets meanwhile you take your time to walk closer and look for the best spot for a great shot with the enigmatic portal sculpted into the ancient landscape by a mysterious lost humanity on a 5-10 minutes self-guided exploration and photo stop.
Following that, your car ride continues on with a second stop at Pomata Lake Titicaca Lookout.
8:45 AM – Pomata Lookout
Besides the main paved road, a lovely place to spend some minutes for a great picture over the world’s highest navigable Lake backed by the snowcapped peaks of Bolivia’s Cordillera Real range.
It offers a panoramic view of the vastness of the Lake and stunning view of the birthplace of the Incas, the Island of the Sun in Bolivia.
Then after, you’ll keep driving on a non-stop ride to Kasani borderline.
9:45 am – 10:00 am Peru to Bolivia Border Crossing
Estimated arrival time at the Peruvian Kasani immigration office, where you’ll meet your Bolivian tour guide, your driver introduces you to him and he’ll walk you through the process. So your border crossing between Peru and Bolivia will be quick and hassle-free if not crowded (especially on local holiday dates).
When you arrive at Kasani border, you’ll get off the Peruvian private vehicle, and grab your luggage. You will switch vehicles to drive in Bolivia.
Therefore, be well prepared, have your documents and all required paperwork in order (particularly if your nationality requires Tourist Visa).
Your guide will tell you to exchange your money at the exchange house in front of the Peruvian migration building.
Getting Stamped Out of Peru
At the Peruvian migration office, you’ll need your passport and the Tourist Visa (if required) and wait in line along the side of the building and they’ll let people in one by one.
When you get the exit stamp, you’ll walk a short distance, walk under the stone arch and get your entry stamp on your passport.
Always check up-to-date requirements for your country. For example, if you are from United States, you will need the Tourist Visa to enter Bolivia.
Border crossing process can last from 30 min to 60 min depending on if your nationality requires applying for the Tourist Visa or if it the place is crowded.
After you got your entry stamp for Bolivia you’ll board a different mobility.
11:30 AM (Bolivian time) – Kasani to Isla del Sol
Your new friendly Bolivian driver (Denis, Abel, Saul, Omar or Vicente), after you all had your stamps, is taking you to Copacabana port on a 15-minute car ride.
Upon arrival, you’ll be introduced to your boatman Amadeus, who is taking you across the highest navigable lake of the world on the way to Isla del Sol, along the way you’ll enjoy of magnificent views. Most local boats are slow but the one you’ll be riding is considerably faster.
12:45 pm – Lunch and Hiking on Isla del Sol (Sun Island)
You’ll arrive at Tacana Restaurant, located on the lower part of the Island and locally owned, offers great views. Here, Vicky will wait for your arrival with a tasty lunch prepared with local products and ingredients. You’ll enjoy of the traditional Apthapi lunch.
1:45 pm – Hiking from Yumani to Pilcocaina
Your guide will lead you through the top rated attractions and places. You will start with the Isla del Sol Hike. You’ll hike from Yumani community towards the very Southern side of the Island.
You’ll firstly hike up the almost 100 stairs and learn from your guide about the legendary myth of the Inca fountain of the eternal youth, spring water.
Following that, you’ll walk through the trail, on the way enjoy the view of the peninsula and part of the Peruvian side. You’ll be informed about the local agricultural activities and pre-Incan terraces, traditions and festivities by your personal guide.
Then after, arrive at the Pilcocaina Temple, walk inside to explore the first Inca palace built for honoring their Sun God. The first Inca temple ever built before to worship their Inti Sun God. You’ll get deep explanation and clue facts about its importance during the Inca ruling and the Inca birthplace.
3:15 pm – Isla del Sol to Copacabana
Embark again on your private boat and head back to Copacabana. Your private boatman will take you back to Copacabana on a 60-minute boat ride.
Upon your arrival, your driver will take you to La Paz on a 3 hour 30 minute drive going through the Strait of Tiquina.
At the Strait of Tiquina, there is no bridge; you have to cross by a local engine ferry (bring Bs10 Bolivian pesos for your tickets).
From Strait of Tiquina, you’ll drive directly to La Paz going through the El Alto town, popular by its terrible traffic jam and chaotic crowded streets.
If your hotel is located in Zona Sur Calacoto (Mitru Express, Rosario Sur, Atix, etc) there is an extra drive time of 20 minutes up to 30 minutes.

Your driver will drop you off at your hotel in downtown or Zona Sur, Bus Station or at the El Alto Airport.
