By the afternoon, on the way back from Amantani to Puno, you’ll stop off at the Uros reed floating islands to learn about its building and ride a typical reed boat.

Your Tour Itinerary

7:00 AM Hotel to Amantani Island

Your friendly driver takes you from your hotel in Puno to the port on a 10 – 20 minute ride (depending on which hotel you’re staying).

The regular motor boat has three parts, the inside, outside back and outside upper deck; there is also a bathroom on board.

You’ll traverse the endless blue horizon of Lake Titicaca, getting to Amantani Island from Puno in roughly 2 hour 45 minutes, watching the mainland get smaller and the Amantani Island gets bigger. The ride is incredibly smooth. It starts slow, as you’ll make your way through tall reeds.

This direct boat navigation towards Amantani is conveniently planned to skip the crowds at the floating Islands in the morning.

On Amantani Island, you’ll see and encounter an ancient indigenous community dating back before the Incas that has learnt how to conserve its original, genuine traditions and Andean political organization throughout the time.

10:00 AM Hiking the Island of Amantani

Your private regular motorized boat drops you off at the Northwest end of the circular Amantani Island, where a steady walk along a well-paved path provides time to admire the scenery.

To get to their house you’ll have a twenty-minute uphill walk. It might be easy at sea-level but at this elevation every step is a challenge.

After settling in, you’ll have lunch at Mariluz house. You’ll have local delicacies based on Quinoa soup and potatoes with grilled trout, chicken or cheese, and veggies.

There are two Inca temples on Amantani Island, they both offer lookout points and they’re both a trek to get to. One temple is called Pachamama (Mother Earth) and the other is Pachatata (Father Earth). These temples are closed throughout the year, with the exception being the third Thursday in January which is when the island celebrates their annual feast.

2:00 PM Amantani to Uros floating Islands

Following your exploration in the highest navigable lake in the world, you’ll be navigating from Amantani to Uros floating Islands.

After 2 hour 30 minute boat ride, you’ll arrive at Uros Islands to learn about its process of building and maintenance. At the time you arrive at Uros you’ll find it less crowded and spoiled.

4:30 PM Step onto the Uros Floating Islands

Before the Incas invaded, the Uros were the main indigenous population in the area. In order to protect themselves from capture, they built the floating islands using reeds from the lake. To this day about a thousand decedents still inhabit the islands.

Your guide delivers clue information about the process of building the islands and how they are maintained. You’ll have the chance to ride a typical reed boat, gently navigating around the other islands.

When you think your experience can’t get any better you’ll find yourself at the Uros reed floating Islands for a final spectacular sunset view over the lake and Puno hills, on your way back from Uros to Puno.

Amantani Island Day Tour ends when the sun is gone. Your driver will pick you up on arrival at the port and transfer you to your hotel.
