Taquile Island Tour is an off-the-beaten path guided day trip by speed boat that includes hiking in Taquile, lunch and reed boat ride at Uros.

It’s an upgraded Day Trip to Lake Titicaca from Puno by fast boat going through the scenic men knitting Island of Taquile, a secluded community on the Chucuito peninsula and the mesmerizing floating Islands of Uros people.

What You’ll Do

Car transfer from your hotel to port, onboard the fast engine boat and head to Taquile Island, then after have lunch at a local house with great Lake views.

By the afternoon return from Luquina to Puno with a stop off at the Uros people floating Islands. You’ll have the chance to ride a typical reed boat and learn their way of life.

10:00 AM Hotel to Taquile Island

Taking the path that leads to the port

Your friendly driver takes you from your hotel in Puno to the port on a 10 – 20 minute ride (depending on which hotel you’re staying).

The speed motor boat has three parts, the inside, outside back and outside upper deck; there is also a bathroom on board.

You’ll traverse the endless blue horizon of Lake Titicaca, getting to Taquile Island from Puno in roughly 1 hour 30 minutes (while a regular does in almost 3 hours), watching the mainland get smaller and the Island gets bigger.

This direct boat navigation towards Taquile Island is conveniently designed to skip the crowds at the floating Islands in the morning and early wake up.

12:00 PM Taquile Hiking & lunch

Your private fast boat drops you off at the North end of the elongated Taquile Island, where a steady walk along a well-paved path provides time to admire the scenery. You’ll see and encounter an ancient indigenous community dating back before the Incas that has learnt how to conserve its original, genuine traditions and Andean political organization throughout the time.

1:00 PM Lake View lunch

At a local accommodating family house, you’ll have local delicacies based on Quinoa soup and potatoes with grilled trout, chicken or cheese, and veggies.

Following your hiking from North Taquile, and descending through the stone stairs, you’ll onboard again the boat and head to Uros Reed floating Islands.

2:00 PM Taquile to Uros Islands by Speed Boat

Following your hiking and local experience in the highest navigable lake in the world, you’ll be navigating from Taquile’s Chilcano port to Uros floating Islands.

After 1 hour 30 min boat ride, you’ll arrive at Uros Islands to learn about its process of building and maintenance. At the time you arrive at Uros, you’ll find it less crowded and spoiled.

3:30 PM Reed boat ride at Uros Islands

Before the Incas invaded, the Uros were the main indigenous population in the area. In order to protect themselves from capture, they built the floating islands using reeds from the lake. To this day about a thousand decedents still inhabit the islands.

Your guide delivers insights about the process of building the islands and how they are maintained. You’ll be invited to ride a typical reed boat, smoothly navigating around the other islands.

5:30 PM Transfer to hotel

Taquile Island Tour ends by the late afternoon. Your driver will pick you up on arrival at the port and transfer you to your hotel.
