Amantani 2 Day Tour begins with pickup at your hotel in downtown Puno, a quick group transfer to the port of Puno where a motor boat waits for all participants. It’s a regular slow motor boat that has three parts: the inside, outside back and outside upper deck; there is also a basic bathroom on board.
The boat stops off at Uros reed floating Islands for a guided visit on your way to Amantani Island. Your guide will provide clue information about the unique way of life, and the natural source that provides home, transportation and sustenance for the residents.
The surface of the islands is uneven, thin, and some liken walking on it to walking on a waterbed. By joining a group boat tour, it’s more likely, you’ll go through the touristy side of the reed Islands at its busiest time.
Locals will invite you walk inside their reed house where they might try to sell you their embroideries, tapestries and reed souvenirs. A traditional reed boat ride is also offered for an extra cost which allows you navigate between two floating Islands.
After 2 hour stop at Uros reed islands including a last stop at a commercial reed Island, you’ll find yourself navigating on the way to Amantani Island.
1:30 PM arriving at Amantani Island
Amantani Island is located almost 3 hours away from Uros. On arrival at the port, friendly community members greet you with open arms. Experience the local culture firsthand as you join a local family in their home.
After lunch in home, you’ll get free afternoon for walking around or embark on a one hour hike to the lookout point and ceremonial centers of “Pachatata” or “Pachamama”. Enjoy one of the highlight of your Titicaca Trip by witnessing the mesmerizing sunset over the expansive Lake Titicaca, a sight that will etch itself in your memory.
Later, enjoy a tasty dinner and rest in the comfort of your local home or partake in a local celebration (wearing their typical clothes), immersing yourself in Andean music and learning some traditional dances in a local community building.
