Your Tour Itinerary
7:00 am – Kayaking to Uros Islands
You’ll be transferred by our driver from your hotel to Isla Esteves kayak dock. On arrival you’ll meet your kayak guide. He provides the basics of paddling, if this is your first time kayaking.
The most impressive landscape you will see during the day. Uros people are masters using the lake’s main source. Totora reeds have been used for thousands of years by their ancestors, certainly improving generation by generation. Now their Islands can last for more than 20 years. Your guide will provide more Uros community facts and history of the men of the Lake.
8:45 am – Encounter with a local family on the floating Island
Our next move is to explore the man-made floating Reed Island; we’ll get out of the kayaks and relax on this fascinating place. After your guide explains about the construction of the reed floating Islands you’ll have time to visit inside their houses and even to buy cute little reed boats (bring cash, if you’d like to contribute to the locals )
9:30 am – onboarding the Amantani boat
Your private motor boat picks you up and heads towards Amantani Island. Additionally, you could visit a second reed Island, a commercial place, where you would buy snacks, coffee, sodas, water, you would even get Uros floating stamp on your passport for S/2 PEN (optional).
After a few minutes staying on this Island, you’ll finally onboard the Amantani boat and head to “the frog shaped Island”. We’ll navigate in the immensity of Titicaca for about 2 hours and 45 minutes. Amantani Island Day Tour is only available by slow boat on a shared excursion.
12:45 am – arrival at Amantani and lunch
Amantani Island is a circular and steep with many pre-Incan terracing systems. It is also popular among people that love a cultural exchange experience, a perfect place for a Lake Titicaca Homestay.
We’ll walk up through a stone paved path and local farming fields and have lunch in one of the rotating local restaurants (prepared with local crops and ingredients).
Your guide is going to explain about the history, tradition, legend, and more facts.
After Amantani guided trip you are going to have free time to explore the Island and walk around.
2:30 pm – departure from Amantani to Puno
You’ll walk down to the port and embark on the boat to go back to Puno city.
However, if you think a day trip to Amantani Island is too short to experience and have a close glimpse of their way of life then you would opt to stay the night at a local family house and being picked up the next day at 2:00 pm.
If you stay on Amantani, you’d have plenty of time to enjoy an amazing sunset over Lake Titicaca, prepare Quinoa flour steam cooked Quispiño, visit the local school, hike up to Pachamama and Pachatata temples, do local agricultural tasks, herd sheep or even go fishing with locals.
Best of all you pay them directly and contribute to their economy.
