Day 1: Arequipa to Colca Canyon
1:00 pm – Arequipa Hotel Pick-Up

You’ll be picked up at your selected Arequipa hotel by your driver and then get transferred to Chivay or Yanque in Colca Canyon on a 4 hour drive with optional photo or lunch stops along the way.
The private car transfer from Arequipa to Chivay or Yanque en route offers unique opportunities to make stops alongside the main highway such as at Pampa Cañahuas, Patapampa (Mirador de Volcanes) and Alpacas Llamas grazing.
If you’d like to stop off along the route, just let us know at the moment of booking then we’ll advise your driver to stop at the requested places consequently your total travel time would be more than 4 hours.
Pampa Cañahuas,
It’s primarily located in the Aguada Blanca National Reserve and Imata Stone Forest, and at the back of Chachani and Misti volcanoes. It’s a place where you can stop for snacks, food, drinks and toilet before continuing on to Chivay.
Patapampa (Volcanoes lookout)
The road goes up to 4910 meters high and, once up, you have a privileged view of the Volcanoes that border Arequipa. When you pass through the Patapampa pass you will notice that this place is covered with a thin layer of snow, also from this beautiful place you can see the most important volcanoes of Arequipa.
From this point you can see the Hualca Hualca volcano (6025 m.a.s.l.), the main Apu of the Cabana ethnic group since ancient times; the Sabancaya volcano (5976 m.a.s.l.) this is an active volcano since 1986.
However, in recent years the volcanic activity has been increasing because of this you can constantly witness eruptions of ash for miles away.
On arrival in Chivay or Yanque (depending on where your selected hotel is located) your driver is going to drop you off at your hotel.
Day 2: Colca Canyon & Condors
6:3O am – Colca Canyon Guided Tour
Today you’ll visit the Condor cross and see the majestic flight of the Condors.
After an early breakfast, your driver and guide will pick you up at your hotel and drive to Colca Valley in order to get early at the Condor viewpoint and skip the crowds.
On the way back to Chivay you’ll stop along the way at the small villages and opt for buffet lunch.
Later you’ll be driven to Puno city Lake Titicaca with optional photo stops along the way (without a tour guide).
Colca Canyon is one of the deepest canyons in the world, is home to the majestic Condors and is steeped in pre-Incan history.
The main towns at the top of canyon are Chivay and Cabanaconde, with the first road from Arequipa being constructed only in the 1940s.
As for the Condors, a wingspan of over 3m makes these beauties one of the largest flying birds in the world. The Andean Condors soar the wind streams of the Colca Canyon and this is one of the best places to see the birds in their natural habitat.
Your best chances to spot a Condor are early in the morning, so that’s why you’ll be picked up early at your hotel; with an early departure you’ll find a spot at the lookout to see the Condors.
On the way back from Condor Cross you’d stop at some villages and even have buffet lunch in Chivay before continuing your trip to Puno.
Lagunillas
It is a beautiful lagoon situated at an altitude of 4,100 meters above sea level on the way from Chivay/Arequipa to Puno. At this section the road begins to twist and turn, and you have to slow down. The scenery includes golden hills dotted with boulders, clear blue skies, and the occasional lagoon.
You might see a smaller lagoon filled with flamingos and other birds. It’s kind of crazy to see flamingos at over 4000 meters above sea level.
You’d stop at the overlook for Lagunillas, where there are some Alpacas and Llamas grazing, in addition to several people selling handicrafts.
After that lagoon, you’ll keep driving towards Puno.
6:00 pm – Arrival in Puno Lake Titicaca
The drive to Puno will be interesting with lots of small villages and local life along the way. After battling a bit of rush hour traffic, the car trip concludes in Puno. Your driver will drop you off at your hotel in Puno.
