Colca Canyon Day Tour from Arequipa Itinerary
3:20 am pick-up from your hotel in Arequipa, Bus station (if traveling from Puno to Arequipa or arriving from coast cites).
6:00 am after driving approximately 3 hours through southern Peru (Arequipa to Colca Canyon), we'll arrive at the picturesque Andean village of Chivay. In this village, we'll have a light breakfast including various regional specialities.
With our batteries recharged, we'll head towards the Cruz del Condor viewpoint, located only 50 minutes from Chivay. We'll spend an hour at the viewpoint to contemplate the superb views of the Colca Canyon, considered to be one of the deepest in the world. This observation point is also perfect for spotting the flight of condors, a predominant species in the skies of this beautiful Andean region.
We'll continue the route by road and stop at many of the viewpoints in the area such as Wayrapunko and Antahuilque to continue admiring the views of the area, such as hanging tombs, lithomachs and terraces from pre-Inca and Inca times.
Afterwards we'll stop at the thermal baths of Chacapi, so that those who wish can soak in its curative waters.
12:00 pm we'll return to Chivay to enjoy a delicious buffet lunch. Enjoy! With your appetite satiated, we'll continue our route and stop at the Mirador de Los Volcanes, from where you'll be able to observe the Chila mountain range, the snow-capped peaks of Ampato and Hualca Hualca, the Sabancaya volcano or the Pichu Pichu volcano.
For those that wish to finish in Puno: On return to Chivay at 1pm, there will just be 15 minutes for lunch before departing to Puno. Arrival time in Puno is 7pm, and the drop off point is at Puno bus station (Terminal Terrestre).

Colca Canyon 2 Day Tour from Arequipa Itinerary
Day 1: Arequipa to Colca Canyon Valley
You’ll be picked up between 07:30 am and 08:20 am in Arequipa, and depart by bus on your excursion towards the Colca Valley.
You’ll be driven across Pampa Cañahuas in the Aguada Blanca National Reserve which is home to herds of Vicuñas, Llamas and Alpacas, so you can stop to get that all-important selfie with an Alpaca!
You’ll also stop at the Mirador de los Andes, the crater of Chucura, and the Mirador de Chivay to get some incredible photos on the way to our final destination, Chivay.
You’ll arrive to Chivay at around 13:00 pm where you’ll have some lunch and check in to your basic hotel for the night. You then have the option to visit the local hot springs if you want, or simply explore the small but picturesque town of Chivay.
Later in the evening, you will meet for dinner with your guide and go to visit a local Peruvian folklore show, where you will be encouraged (and sometimes forced) to partake in the local dancing and singing! An early night is recommended, so try to avoid the local Irish bar!
Day 2: Chivay to Cruz del Condor (Condor’s Cross) to Arequipa
After an early breakfast (around 06:00 am), you’ll depart to the “Condor’s Cross” from where we will hopefully see the world famous Andean Condor birds fly majestically above us as they rise up from the Canyon. You’ll be taken to different viewpoints of the Canyon to allow you to explore and appreciate the sheer size of this incredible canyon (the second deepest in the world!).
On the way back to Chivay, we stop at the town of Yanque, visit its beautiful church and its characteristic stone streets among other attractions. To have spectacular views of the Colca Valley, we will drive to the observation points of Choquetipo and Artahuilque where you can see pre-Inca tombs and mock ups of the terraces, so make sure you save plenty of space in your memory card for these amazing places.
After lunch at a local restaurant you’ll return to the city of Arequipa, arriving at approx. 17:30 pm where you’ll be dropped off at your hotel or hostel.
For those that plan to finish in Puno: book in advance a sightseeing bus ride from Chivay to Puno through unique landscapes. Arrival time in Puno is at about 7pm, and the drop off point is at Puno bus station (Terminal Terrestre).

Colca Canyon 2 Day Trek is an early and long drive from Arequipa to Cabanaconde (6 hours) with stop in Chivay for breakfast, then after trek from Cabanaconde into the Canyon and overnight in Sangalle. Colca Canyon 2 Day Trek Itinerary
Day 1: Arequipa City to Chivay (breakfast) to Condor’s cross to Sangalle
Your pick-up time is between 03:00 am and 03:30 am, we will depart from Arequipa to Cabanaconde in the Colca Canyon, which is about a 6 hour drive. On the way we stop at Chivay for breakfast and later we continue to La Cruz del Condor which is the best place to watch the Canyon and the famous Andean Condor birds. From here, we will continue another 20 minutes by bus to start our trek downhill (from Cabanaconde). We will trek downhill for approximately 3 ½ hours from 3300 metres to 2100 metres into the Canyon.
Arequipa to Cabanaconde drive, trek to Chuccho (overnight). Day 2 hike to oasis. Day 3 return to Chivay and Arequipa.
We’ll arrive to San Juan de Chuccho for lunch and some time to rest before continuing with our hiking, a village with vegetation and some fruit trees. From there, we keep walking to the small towns of Cosñirhua and Malata. Then, it is time to keep hiking even further into the Canyon, this time into the deepest part of our trek to reach “Sangalle” a village at an altitude of approximately 1900 meters above see level. Here you can enjoy the warm swimming pool to relax after a long day’s hiking. We will arrive to Sangalle at approximately 17:00 pm. At night, we will have dinner and sleepover in bungalows near the oasis.
Day 2: From Sangalle to Chivay to Arequipa City
At 05:00 am, we will start trekking uphill for approximately 3 hours to the town of Cabanaconde with the help of torch lights. This part of the trek can provide spectacular views as we trek during the sunrise. We will have breakfast in Cabanaconde. From there, we will head to Chivay. On the way, we will have a great view of pre-Inca terraces, some archaeological ruins and colonial towns amongst others views. Around noon, we arrive to Chivay at the hot springs, with water temperatures of 38°C (optional). In Chivay, we will enjoy a typical local lunch if you wish (not included).
In the afternoon, we will have transportation back to Arequipa. On the way, we descend from 4830 metres to 2325 metres and pass through a national reserve and Pampa Cañahuas, which is a habitat for the four species of South American camelids (llama, alpaca, vicuña and guanaco). This is where you can get that all important selfie with an Alpaca or even a Vicuña if you are lucky. At the end of the afternoon, we arrive to Arequipa between 17:00 pm – 18:00 pm and we will drop you off at Calle Santa Catalina, next to Santa Catalina Monastery.

To do Colca Canyon 3 Day Trek is not harder than the Colca Canyon 2 Day Trek, highly recommended for people that have plenty of time to enjoy on their own pace this 3 day trek.
This 3 Day Colca Canyon trek is recommended above the 2 day trek because you have more time to enjoy the views and take pictures. The trail is downhill, flat and uphill. Altitudes range from 1900 to 3300 meters above sea level. Generally very little acclimatization is necessary if you have spent time in Arequipa, Puno, or Cusco.

Colca Canyon 3 Day Trek Itinerary
Day 1: From Arequipa to Condor’s Cross to San Juan de Chuccho
Leave Arequipa for Colca Canyon after hotel pick-up (between 3 and 3:30 am) then after 3 1/2 hours driving, we’ll stop in Chivay to enjoy breakfast.
Later, we continue driving to one of the most popular points of the canyon, “Condor’s Cross” (Mirador Cruz del Condor), where we stay for about 40 minutes to watch the Condors fly.
Arequipa to Cabanaconde drive, trek to Sangalle (overnight). Day 2 return hiking up, hot spring in Chivay and return to Arequipa.
We will continue for another 20 minutes by bus, then our trek downhill begins. We trek downhill from 3300 meters above sea level to reach the bottom which will take approximately 3 ½ hours, at an altitude of 2100 meters above sea level. We will have lunch, dinner and stay overnight in San Juan de Chuccho village which has a tropical climate with a lot of vegetation. The accommodations here are basic rooms.
Day 2: San Juan de Chuccho to Malata to Oasis
08:00 am After breakfast, we continue to the town of Cosñirhua to see the production of honey, which is made by the local people and taste the honey. It is possible to see archaeological ruins left by pre-Inca cultures around the area.
Going on, we reach the town of Malata and its old Spanish church design. Then, we descend to the deepest part of our trek to Sangalle Village at 1900 metres above sea level.
Dinner and overnight in bungalows.
Day 3: Trek to Cabanaconde, drive to Chivay to Arequipa City
05:00 am Trek uphill to Cabanaconde which will take approximately 3 hours. On arrival, we will have breakfast in Cabanaconde and then take our transport to Chivay on the way back to Arequipa. At approximately 12:00 pm, we will arrive to Chivay towards the hot springs.
In Chivay, we will have a typical lunch of the region and then head back to Arequipa. On the way back, we descend from 4830 meters above sea level to 2325 meters above sea level passing through a National Reserve and Pampa Cañahuas, which is a habitat for the four kinds of South American camelids.
(Llama, Alpaca, vicuña and guanaco). We return to Arequipa at approximately 17:30 pm.

Continuing with the tour, you will board the private transport to visit the Cantera Vírgen de Culebrillas. Inside, you will feel a mysterious and unique environment where you can see the presence of petroglyphs that will transfer you to the life and beliefs of the ancient culture. Then you will see and learn about the apachetas (stone pyramids), and will be able to recreate your own one!
After walking through the sacred site, you will board the bus to return to the city center.
