What You’ll Do
This tour from Chivay or Yanque to the Colca Canyon is a classic Andean journey, typically structured to catch the early morning “thermals” that allow condors to soar. The highlight of this route is the traditional Wititi dance, which takes place in the main square of Yanque before the crowds reach the deeper parts of the canyon.
You’ll be transferred from your hotel in Chivay or Yanque (for Colca Lodge, El Refugio D’Elise, Las Casitas del Colca, etc) to the Condor cross on a 60 minute minute car ride. You’ll take the perfect spot for watching the Condors.
After you see the majestic flight of the Condors over the Canyon you’ll return to your hotel or get dropped off in Chivay town with optional stops at villages and lookouts along the way back.

6:30 am – Chivay to Condor Cross

Your private driver and guide will pick you up at your hotel in Chivay or Yanque and then after head to Condor Cross (Cruz del Condor) to ensure you arrive at the viewpoints in time for wildlife and cultural performances, on a 60 minute car ride on the way to Colca Canyon.

Stop at the picturesque village of Yanque to witness the Wititi dance. This dance is a cultural treasure of the region and it is performed daily in the Main Plaza.
We highly recommend you to bring tips for the dancers otherwise you could head directly to the next point. If you opt to visit Yanque’s Main Square then you will…

8:00 am ~ 8:30 am – Condor Cross lookout
At this time, you’ll admire the impressive views of one of the deepest canyon in the world and see the majestic Andean Condor bird that may be spotted flying just over head (fingers crossed). Get up close and get amazing photos of these birds whose presence create a truly unique experience at the Canyon.
On the way back to Chivay (or when going to Condor Cross), you’ll stop and visit the villages of Pinchollo, Maca and Yanque, all small villages which have colonial churches, tombs, and pre-Inca terraces, and you’ll really gain glimpse of their way of life and see closely the impact of living in the second deepest Canyon in the world.
Some photo opportunities with Lamas, Alpacas and with local people typically dressed is offered during this visit.
