5:00 am – Cusco hotel pick-up

You’ll be picked up at your selected airbnb or hotel in Cusco by your friendly Spanish speaking driver and then get transferred to Puno on a 7 to 8 hour drive with photo stop and snack stop on the way. We’ll share his name the day before of the transfer
9.00 am – Stop at La Raya
It’s llocated at 4,335 m, the highest point in your journey. The place also marks the division between the departments of Puno and Cusco.
The best spot to enjoy the majestic view of the Mountains (snowy peaks of Apu Chimboya), stretch your legs and take pictures. You’ll find a small market that is set up at the stop selling typical Peruvian wares such as sweaters, hats, scarves and decorative rugs.
Estimated stop-off time at La Raya is from 10 minutes up to 15 minutes.
10:30 am – Pucara Cafeteria
Your driver will stop at this place if you need to use bathroom and buy refreshment, sandwiches and groceries. This is an optional and quick stop. The place might be crowded at the time you arrive.
Just tell us when you’d like to be picked up at your address and our friendly driver will show up at your place on time. We’ll share his name the day before of the transfer.
If you’d like to stop off along the route, just let us know at the moment of booking then we’ll advise your driver to stop at the requested places then your total travel time would be more than 9 hours.
Pucara, it will be your last stop before Puno, the town is famous for its talented ceramists, who craft the “Toritos de Pucara” (“Little Bulls of Pucara”) which can often be found adorning rooftops in houses in Peru, placed to attract good fortune at home.
12:45 pm – Arrival at Puno port & Uros Islands Boat Tour
The guided boat tour from Puno to Uros floating Islands will be the highlight of your journey from Cusco to La Paz.
The reed floating Islands will be visited in about 3 hours, have lunch on the Island and continue your trip towards La Paz via Desaguadero border.
At the car parking you’ll meet your local English speaking tour guide. Your luggage will stay in the car while the tour takes place. He’ll walk you to the embarking pier and onboard your private engine boat and begin your voyage to the 30 min away journey to Floating Islands, in which you can absorb the tranquility and stillness of the magnificent Lake Titicaca, only disrupted by the passing of another vessel and the sound of the birds.
As you approach your destination, take note of the large, grass-like reeds growing by the wayside, which are famously used in the construction of the islands you’re about to visit.
Practice your Aymara greetings with your guide, and get ready to meet the Uros people, who are eagerly waiting to receive you.
1:30 pm – Lunch on a Floating Reed Island
On arrival at the reed floating Island you have lunch and taste the local food based on Trout, Quinoa, salads, fruits dessert and hot drinks. The lunch on one of the reed floating Islands will be with stunning views of the Lake.
On arrival, you’ll be helped down onto dry reed land, and shown around one of the islands located in the Northern or Southern side.
2:30 pm – Ride a reed boat
Visit a second local family’s island and get a chance to ride a typical reed boat while your guide explains you about the origin, history and the process of building reed houses and floating Islands.
You’ll see the way they live, and learn from your guide just how vital the Totora reed is for this community.
In this modern day and age, it is rare to find a community who has such a special relationship with their surrounding environment, and with such an ingenious way to live sustainably.

4:00 pm – Depart from Puno to Desaguadero border
At the end of the guided boat tour to Uros Islands, you will onboard the private vehicle again and keep driving towards Desaguadero border for about 2 hour 30 minutes.
6:30 pm – Border crossing & switch vehicles
On arrival at Desaguadero border, you will switch vehicles and you might walk for a few minutes until you reach the Peruvian immigration office accompanied by your Peruvian driver.
Your Peruvian driver will introduce you to your new Bolivian driver, who is waiting for you in front of the immigration office.
If you’re not going to come back to Peru then you can exchange your Peruvian currency into Bolivian pesos.
Your new Bolivian driver is going to assist you across the immigration offices.
The border crossing usually takes from 30 minutes up to 60 minutes if there isn’t crowd or if you do not need Tourist Visa to enter Bolivia.
If your nationality requires applying for the Tourist Visa it might take 1 hour up to 3 hours depending if you bring all documents and USD cash for the payment.
8:30 pm (Bolivian time while in Peru is 7:30 pm) – Desaguadero to La Paz
Once you’ve got your entry stamp on your passport, your driver will walk you to the location of the new vehicle.
You’ll drive from Desaguadero to La Paz for about 2 hour 45 minute. You’ll go through the El Alto town, popular by its terrible traffic jams and crowded streets.
If your hotel is located in Zona Sur Calacoto (Mitru Express, Rosario Sur, Atix, etc) there is an extra drive time of 20 up to 30 minutes.
11:30 pm – Drop-off at your hotel in La Paz
Your driver will drop you off at your hotel in downtown or Zona Sur, Bus Station or at the El Alto Airport.
