6:00 am – Pick-up at La Paz hotel

You’ll be picked up at your selected airbnb or hotel in La Paz by your friendly Spanish speaking driver and then get transferred to Desaguadero on a 2 hours 30 min drive. We’ll share his name the day before of the transfer
8:30 am – Desaguadero border crossing
On arrival at Desaguadero border, you will switch vehicles and you might walk for a few minutes until you reach the Bolivian immigration office accompanied by your Bolivian driver.
Your Bolivian driver will introduce you to your new Peruvian driver, who is waiting for you at the Peruvian immigration office.
If you’re not going to come back to Bolivia then you can exchange your Bolivian currency into Peruvian soles at the exchange house located in front of the Peru office.
Your Bolivian or Peruvian driver is going to assist you across the immigration offices.
The border crossing usually takes from 30 minutes up to 60 minutes if there isn’t crowd or if you do not travel during local market days (Tuesday and Friday).
8:30 am (Peruvian time while in Bolivia is 9:30 am) – Desaguadero to Puno
Once you’ve got your exit stamp in Bolivia and entry stamp in Peru on your passport, your new driver will walk you to the location of the new vehicle and drive from Desaguadero to Puno for about 2 hour 30 minutes.
11:00 am – Arrival at Puno port & Uros Islands Boat Tour
The guided boat tour from Puno to Uros floating Islands will be the highlight of your journey from La Paz to Cusco.
The reed floating Islands will be visited in about 3 hours including lunch time and reed boat ride before continuing to Cusco.
At the car parking you’ll meet your local English speaking tour guide. Your luggage will stay in the car while the tour takes place. He’ll walk you to the embarking pier and onboard your private engine boat and begin your voyage to the 30 min away journey to Floating Islands, in which you can absorb the tranquility and stillness of the magnificent Lake Titicaca, only disrupted by the passing of another vessel and the sound of the birds.
As you approach your destination, take note of the large, grass-like reeds growing by the wayside, which are famously used in the construction of the islands you’re about to visit.
Practice your Aymara greetings with your guide, and get ready to meet the Uros people, who are eagerly waiting to receive you.
11:30 am – Meet the locals and Ride a reed boat
On arrival, you’ll be helped down onto dry reed land, and shown around one of the islands located in the Northern or Southern side and get a chance to ride a typical reed boat while your guide explains you about the origin, history and the process of building reed houses and floating Islands.
You’ll see the way they live, and learn from your guide just how vital the Totora reed is for this community.
In this modern day and age, it is rare to find a community who has such a special relationship with their surrounding environment, and with such an ingenious way to live sustainably.
If you’d like to contribute this family you might consider purchasing their reed souvenirs and embroideries or just ride the reed boat.
12:30 pm – Lunch on a Floating Reed Island
Then after, head to a second reed floating Island where you have lunch and taste the local food based on Trout, Quinoa, salads, fruits dessert and hot drinks. The lunch on one of the reed floating Islands will be with stunning views of the Lake.
2:00 pm – Depart from Puno to Cusco
At the end of the guided boat tour to Uros Islands, you will onboard the private vehicle again and keep driving towards to Cusco for about 7 – 8 hours along the way you will stop at Pucara and La Raya.
4:00 pm – Pucara Cafeteria
Your driver will stop at this place if you need to use bathroom and buy refreshment, sandwiches and groceries. This is an optional and quick stop. The place might be less crowded at the time you arrive.
Pucara, it will be your optional stop on the way to Cusco, the town is famous for its talented ceramists, who craft the “Toritos de Pucara” (“Little Bulls of Pucara”) which can often be found adorning rooftops in houses in Southern Peru, placed to attract good fortune at home.
9:00 pm – Drop-off at Cusco hotel
