What You’ll Do

La Paz to Kasani border

You’ll be picked up from your location in La Paz city, Bolivia and transferred to Copacabana, from where you’ll navigate to Isla del Sol for a guided visit. Later, you’ll be transferred to Kasani borderline.

Kasani border to Puno

Your guide assists you across the border immigration offices and introduces you to your new driver. After switching vehicles you’ll be on your way to Puno with an optional photo stop on the way.

Your Tour Itinerary

7:00 am – La Paz to Copacabana car transfer

Pick-up at your hotel and depart from La Paz towards Copacabana, suggested early departure to skip the traffic jam in El Alto town.

En route you’ll enjoy spectacular scenery as you drive through a series of interesting villages and communities along the vast plains of the Andes.

At Strait of Tiquina, the narrow section of Lake Titicaca, you have to cross by a local motor ferry (it may apply extra cost of Bs10 for the tickets).

Your guide provides an introductory explanation of pre-Incan civilizations as Tiwanaku culture, Aymara Kingdoms, and the Inca conquering and Spaniards invading chronology.

10:30 am – Copacabana to Isla del Sol

Upon arrival at the bay of Copacabana town, you’ll meet Amadeus (or Bacilio) your personal boatman, then onboard the private motor boat transport that will take you to the Island of the Sun on a 60-minute of navigation (most ferries do it in almost 2 hours!).

12:00 pm – Lunch & Hiking on Isla del Sol

Estimated arrival time at Yumani community’s local port, you’ll walk up at Tacana Restaurant that offers great Lake views. Here, Vicky will wait for your arrival with a tasty lunch prepared with local products and ingredients. You’ll enjoy of the traditional Apthapi lunch.

1:00 pm – Hiking from Yumani to Pilcocaina

Your guide will lead you through the top rated attractions and places. You will start with the Isla del Sol Hike. You’ll hike from Yumani community towards the very Southern side of the Island.

You’ll firstly hike up the almost 100 stairs and learn from your guide about the legendary myth of the Inca fountain of the eternal youth, spring water.

Following that, you’ll walk through the ancient trail on the way enjoy the view of the peninsula and part of the Peruvian side. You’ll be informed about the local agricultural activities and pre-Incan terraces, traditions and festivities by your personal guide.

Then after, arrive at the Pilcocaina Temple, walk inside to explore the first Inca palace built for honoring their Sun God. The first Inca temple ever built before to worship their Inti Sun God. You’ll get deep explanation and clue facts about its importance during the Inca ruling and the Inca birthplace.

3:00 pm – Isla del Sol to Copacabana

Embark again on your private boat and head back to Copacabana. Your private boatman will take you back to Copacabana on a 60-minute boat ride. Upon arrival you’ll board the private car and head to Kasani border on a 15-minute ride.

4:30 pm –Bolivia to Peru Border Crossing

Estimated arrival time at the Bolivian Peruvian Kasani immigration office, you’ll get off the Bolivian private vehicle, get your Bolivian exit stamp, grab your luggage and walk to Peru immigration office accompanied and assisted by your Bolivian tour guide.

He will walk you to the Peruvian side where you’ll meet your Peruvian driver. Your guide introduces you to him. So your border crossing between Peru and Bolivia will be quick and hassle-free if the place is not crowded (especially on local festivity dates).

Your guide will suggest you to exchange your money at the exchange house located in front of the Peruvian migration building (optional). 

The total border crossing process can last from 30 min up to 60 min depending on if your travel date does not watch with local festivity dates.

3:45 pm (Peruvian time while in Bolivia is 4:45 pm) – Kasani to Puno

Your new friendly Peruvian driver (Sergio, Roberto or Joel), after you all had your stamps on your passport, is taking you to Puno on a 2-hour 30-minute car ride with a photo stop at:

Pomata Lookout

It is located besides the main paved road, a lovely place to spend some minutes for a great picture over the world’s highest navigable Lake backed by the snowcapped peaks of Bolivia’s Cordillera Real range.

It offers a panoramic view of the vastness of the Lake and stunning view of the birthplace of the Incas, the Island of the Sun in Bolivia.

Then after, you’ll keep driving on a non-stop ride to Puno.

6:30 pm – Drop-off at hotel in Puno

Your driver will drop you off at your hotel in downtown hotel or at Kalapajra pier (if you’ll stay the night on a reed floating lodge on Lake Titicaca).
