When you arrive in the town of Desaguadero, you’ll get off the Peruvian private vehicle, and grab your entire luggage. You have to switch vehicles to drive in Bolivia.
Therefore, be well prepared, have your documents and all required paperwork in order (particularly if your nationality requires Tourist Visa).
Your guide will tell you to exchange your money at the exchange house in front of the Peruvian migration building.
Getting Stamped Out of Peru
At the Peruvian migration office, you’ll need your passport and the Tourist Visa (if required) and wait in line along the side of the building and they’ll let people in one by one.
When you got the exit stamp, you’ll walk a short distance, cross over a bridge in the middle of the town, a border crossing on the Bolivia side, and are greeted by lots of hustle and bustle.
Here, you must take the left street and again go to a small office located on your right.
Always check up-to-date requirements for your country. For example, if you are from United States, you will need a visa to enter Bolivia (most of the countries do not).
Border crossing process can last from 15 min to 60 min depending on if your nationality requires applying for the Tourist Visa or if it is market days (Tuesday or Friday).
After you got your entry stamp for Bolivia you’ll board a different mobility.
