Private kayak trip

We took a private kayak trip around the Uros islands with Edison, he was fantastic and knowledgeable. Felt like we had the whole lake to ourselves, kept us well off the beaten track! Definitely worth paying for this over a boat trip.

Great kayak tour with Edison

We had a great kayaking tour with Edison on Lake Titicaca. The equipment is top and Edison a super sympathetic guide who knows a lot about the lake and the surrounding area. The whole tour is very untouristic, even on the Floating Islands we made our lunch stop on an island where only we were. Without exception recommended!

Kayak launching place.jpg

This Uros Island kayaking Tour off the beaten path starts at 9:00 am, after an early hotel breakfast, you’re going to be picked up by our driver Lucho, David or Guido then driven to Chimu kayak dock.

Landscape nearby local port departure is impressive and beautiful.

You’ll immediately wear your personal floatation device, enter in the kayak and start paddling on the blue water of Lake Titicaca, right away!

But not so fast, if you’re a beginner your friendly and passionate English speaking kayak guide is going to introduce you into elemental kayak paddling lessons, paddling techniques and more.

You then will feel nature is all to us for exploring.

Paddling speed is always at your own rhythm without any pressure.

Scenic surroundings

Beauty of local landscape.jpg

The place offers incredible views where High plateau sky and lake is one, blue water ways, green carpeted reeds (mostly in rainy seasons) and native birds living around in their natural habitat all this is amazing.

We’re going to paddle through a water channel used by big motor boats going to open Lake (Amantani and Taquile Islands).

We’re going to have a panoramic view of the Peninsula of Capachica and Chucuito.

Endless blue water acts like a natural border between Quechua speakers at Capachica and Aymara speaker people at Chucuito peninsula.

After almost 2 hours paddling we’re going to reach to Uros Floating village.

First impression will be how these islands would have been built. But, there is no need to imagine! Just let your guide explain you about their origin, history, way of life and more importantly how the islands are built.

First sight of Uros floating Islands.jpg

After almost one hour we’ll see the first reed islands in front of us, our extra paddle from this point to Northern area will provide extra chance for exploring these interesting homes.

Almost one hundred floating Islands can be counted, which are distributed along the Wily River and the shallow parts.

At the time we’ll arrive is almost 12:15 pm and this hour is not crowded at all.

We’re having lunch at Uros Khantati, Aruntawi Lodge, Summa Paqari Lodge, Qhantany Lodge or other similar. They have one thing in common they prepare tasty lunch which will be enjoyed overlooking the lake from inside their glass window and reed houses.

Lunch on Uros floating lodge.jpg

There will be time to encounter with the Islanders, or sit and relax.

Lunch is basically based on grilled Chicken or Trout with vegetables and dessert (banana and mango covered with melted chocolate) or another different presentation.

Now finally after exploring the Islands we’ll take Northern water way to return to Puno and arrive to Uros Kalapajra pier.
