Uros Floating Islands Tour Itinerary
8:45 am Our friendly driver comes at your hotel in Puno city for you. A quick pick-up and transfer from downtown hotels to Puno port is delivered, all participants don’t have to go on their own way to the boat departure point.
9:05 am a spacious and panoramic window motor boat leaves Puno port for the most fascinating indigenous groups in Peru, the floating Islands of Uros which is the highlight of any itinerary on your Lake Titicaca vacation trip.
It’s a 25 minute of navigation through the Lake Titicaca National Reserve observing the typical flora (Totora reeds) and fauna (Titicaca birds) on our way to the floating village of Uros while your English-Spanish speaking tour guide provides the Lake Titicaca facts and history.
9:35 am arrival time to one of the almost 100 floating islands, where your guide is going to perform how exactly the reed island is constructed, what they do eat, how they ended up living on the lake, etc.
10:15 am the family, after the brief explanation, invites you to visit inside their reed houses, where probably you’re going to be shown their traditional handicrafts, embroideries, little reed boat souvenirs, and here is when they try to convince you to buy them, the very moment when you feel uncomfortable and your experience turns a little contrived.
That fact inspired us to redesign and renamed it as “Authentic Uros Floating Islands Tour” which will seize your day on Lake Titicaca. We’ll be visiting the Uros Chimu islands, located in the Southern side of Uros village, where buying souvenirs is optional. No one force you to purchase (up to you).
After you’ve known their home, you have free time to explore the island, buy souvenirs or simply gain incredible sights from the lookout.
10:45 am it’s time to go to the next reed island, most people usually take the reed boat to reach the “commercial island” navigating for about 15 min or more.
However when taking this short extra trip, keep in mind, you have to pay for it at the end of the ride (S/. 10 per person approx.)
11:00 am for people not taking the reed boat, our engine boat will take you there anyway. This is basically a commercial island where you can buy snacks, souvenirs, hot drinks, or even get the stamp of Lake Titicaca for your passport.
11: 30 am return by the same way to Puno port.
12:00 pm arrival and transfer back to your hotel in Puno downtown.
