Get an authentic taste of life on Uros reed floating Island on Lake Titicaca, taking part of their daily activities of a friendly and hospitable local family in their modest reed homes, sharing their food.
Uros Islands Cultural Experience benefits both you as a guest and the islanders.
You get a genuine insight into life on the island, eating with the family, meeting other villagers.
Local activities are provided and run by the Uros people islanders, any income generated by your visit benefits the entire family, allowing them to preserve their traditional way of life based on building reed raft, fishing, cutting reeds, constructing reed floating Islands and weaving (embroideries made by women).
A classic boat tour from Puno to Uros islands, learn about reed usage, building process and history. From 9 am to 12 pm.
If you can cope with the altitude, kayak at Uros Islands (or go back to Puno paddling your kayak at no additional cost).
As well as spending time on Uros, you have lunch on the man-made Uros islands built with tortora reeds and home to the Uros Indians.
Itinerary of what you’ll do
Before heading to La Paz, Arequipa, Cusco, Copacabana or Puerto Maldonado visit Uros reed floating Islands doing local activities and having lunch on the Island.
Uros Islands Cultural Experience takes place in the North side of Uros floating village.
Here a local man is going to take you on his reed boat (Balsa) to the marshes of reeds performing how reeds are cut from the very bottom using this typcal raft.
10:00 am Pick-up from your hotel and then motor boat ride to Uros Islands.
10:30 am Upon arrival you’ll be part of this local activity. Your English speaking guide provides clue information of the Uros people on how they ended up to live on the Lake.
12:00 pm Enjoy a tasty home-made lunch on the reed Islands.
1:30 pm Return from the Island to Puno port.
2:00 pm Boat arrival to Puno port and transfer back to your selected hotel or transfer to Juliaca airport or La Paz (upon request, additional extra cost).
