Guest reviews (on TripAdvisor)
Before you go read what our client has commented about Amantani Homestay and Titicaca Kayak Experience Tour:
Our round-trip included an overnight Homestay with Maralena and her lovely family on Amantani island. Their hospitality was flawless. The next day started with an early morning 10 km paddle to Tequile island and then another private family welcome to the iconic reed islands of Uros.
While the lake paddling was the true activities, it was all the people involved that took this experience beyond expectations. Edison takes very good care of his guests and is an incredible source of information. We could discuss any topic and I always came away with learning something new.
If you are a decent paddler, the total 26 km over two days is do-able. There was also the option of a final paddle from Uros back to Puno Bay which we did not do. Edison and our boat driver, Valeri, was with us at all times. As two women, we felt safe every minute.
The food we had was delicious! What a treat to have a meal cooked over a wood-fire and ingredients right from the garden.
A few tips that worked for us:
Pack extra layers for the overnight stay on Amantani if you go during the colder periods.
Sunscreen and re-apply when on the water
Consider purchasing textiles/woven items from the co-op market on Tequile because not only is the quality the best that we saw, the money goes directly to the people who make these items by hand.

DAY 1: Kayak from Puno to Uros Islands, then from Llachon to Amantani
This day will be unique and tailor-made vacation out there on Lake Titicaca, paddling, meeting new people, contemplating the beauty of the surroundings.
This first day begins with the visit of Uros Islands.
Kayak to Uros Islands
Roberto or Isidro usually picks you up from your hotel in Puno then drive you to Esteves Island. So you don't have to worry about how to get to kayak departure point. Just be ready at 6:50 am.
Here, after 15 min drive and a safety briefing from your kayak guide we receive the appropriate safety equipment and embark on our 0ne hour kayaking adventure to Uros reed islands.
There are more than 80 floating islands. We’ll step on one of those islands to onboard the motor boat. Your guide and the boatman are uploading on the boat the kayaks, which takes 15 min while enjoy the view of the reed islands.
Llachon Kayak to Amantani
Then after, we're finally leaving Uros islands to Llachon at 8:15 am by motor boat.
After 2 hours navigating to Llachon we’ll reach our embarkation point.
We will start the second part of kayaking hugging the shoreline along the Capachica Peninsula until we reach the tip from where we'll see the next island: Amantani.
We're paddling across the open water and pass small rocky places over to Amantani Island.
This adventure kayak takes about 2 hours and 15 min (10 km), then on arrival to Amantani Island we'll be disembarking on its southern tip (Occosuyo community) and start hiking along the island to our family host house, beautiful ambiance.
Our family provides lunch.
Visit the village’s pre-Incan Temple of Pachatata or Pachamama and in the afternoon settle into our rural lodge for dinner and overnight.
Beautiful views of the surrounding lake-shore including the Cordillera Real on the Bolivian side of the lake.
Day 2: Kayak from Amantani Island to Taquile
Taquile Island is our destination this second day.
It is located 36 km away from Puno city, and 10 km from Amantani Island which will be reched by kayaks in our case.
Sun is rising while we're getting ready to paddle toward Taquile Island.
Today we'll proceed to explore the Island of Taquile. Our host family we'll tell us Adios “Goodbye”. We'll enter in our kayaks and begin paddling to our last destination: Taquile.
It is located 10 km approx from Amantani, this mean we're spending at least 2 hours and 15 min paddling with breaks.
When we arrive to Taquile, Alsuno Port, we're walking up to the restaurant where we'll be explained by the guide about their art textile.
People still keep their ancient traditions: weaving and knitting. We'll learn how married and single people wear.
Lunch is based on Trout and Quinoa Soup.
This visit will take almost 3 hours since we arrive until we leave the Island to get back to Puno city by motor boat.
When we are already at Uros Islands as a last option you can decide to paddle one more time from Uros reed islands to Puno shore (to same initial launch point)
